ACUPUNCTURE & HERBS FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH

Studies have shown Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine to be useful in normalizing menstrual cycles, and counteracting other imbalances in the female hormonal system. Dr. Kathleen Rosenblatt has had many years experience in providing effective relief for:

Menstrual Problems (irregular period, heavy flow, cramps, acne, bloating, breast distention)

PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome)

Endometriosis

Chronic Pelvic Inflammation

Migraines & Headaches Related to the Hormonal Cycle

Lack of Libido

Fibroids & Cysts in the Uterus and the Breasts

The menstrual cycle is a good indicator of a women’s general health. The flow should be adequate, regular, and without discomfort. Stressful lifestyle, poor eating habits, and frequent emotional upset encourage blood deficiency and blocked Chi (vital energy), leading to irregularity and pain. This can create a feedback loop that causes MORE anxiety and overeating leading to a downward cycle. Rather than resorting to drugs and their side effects, one can manipulate the blood and nerves through specialized acupuncture energy points that can pull from the excesses to aid the deficiencies, as in transferring the excess heat from heartburn to the cold stasis of a blocked uterus.

Painful difficult periods, fibroids, blocked tubes, and endometriosis are obstructions causing a downward sprial of more constriction of blood, fluids, and neural transmission in the pelvic organs. This can contribute to difficulties conceiving—including problems with ovulation, fertilization and implantation in the uterus. Acupuncture is an excellent therapy for the removal of blocked energy, while herbal medicine promotes blood flow to the pelvic region to remove blood stasis and eliminate any abdominal masses. There is much less cramping and more relaxation immediately after treatment and in subsequent cycles.

If menstrual issues are accompanied by coldness, weakness, tiredness, lack of libido, depression, and exhaustion after menstrual flow, this indicates a need for warming tonic herbs. Warming moxibustion and infra-red heat invigorate the body's "pilot light" and blood flow.

If fatigue, irritability, depression, water retention, breast tenderness, migraines and sugar cravings occur before the menstrual flow, these PMS symptoms are due to hormone imbalances in the delicate endocrine system. Acupuncture points in the ear can manipulate the brain centers to restore endocrine harmony. Herbal medicine can improve energy, digestion, circulation, mental clarity and restores a sense of centeredness.

For healthy menstrual life, when the period approaches, women should avoid too many hot, spicy or cold, raw foods, and avoid physical exhaustion and emotional stress. Then they will be able to fully realize the benefits of acupuncture and herbal medicine.
